RE: Amateur Adult

Anastasios of Athens, Attica Greece asks...

Hello.
I have a question about the red card. If a player is being sent off in tha final of a game,is he allowed to reenter tha field after tha game has ended? Does he get a medal or be allowed to be part of the cup ceremony whatsoever?
Thank you in advance!

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

He has to leave the environs of the game until the game is over. I see nothing in the Laws that would prevent him from taking part in any after game ceremonies.

The LOTG requires that a player who has been sent off the field of play must leave the field and the immediate vacinity for the remainder of the game. It is usual for that player to miss playing the at least the next match as well. However there is nothing in the LOTG which prevents that player from participating in an award ceremony for their team.

When players are sent off they leave the field and immediate area until after the match is over! That is not an absolute, given the legal ramifications of child protection requiring supervision. I see nothing preventing then from returning once the match is over to celebrate with their team mates. Mind you the referee, if also present, could record or report any further issues should our miscreant engage in unsavoury actions upon returning to the field as the others are exiting or even during the award ceremony!
Cheers
