Question Number: 21270Kicks From The Penalty mark 5/4/2009RE: Competitive Adult Remy of Windsor, ON Canada asks...The score is tied at the end of regular time. 2 overtime periods don't produce a winner. Shots from the penalty mark are required. One team had only 7 players on the field at the end of the game. The other team had 11 players. When shots from the penalty mark begin, both teams are required to have only 7 players in the center circle. The goalie on the team that finished the game with 11 players gets injured. Can the coach replace the goalie with one of the players that was not one of the final 7 players in the center circle but was one of the 11 players that finished the overtime periods? Answer provided by Referee Michelle Maloney If the goalkeeper was injured during the taking of the KFTPM, a substitution may be made from any available substitutes, assuming the team still has unused substitutes. No other substitutions are allowed.

What is interesting is IF the substitutes HAVE exceeded a limit and can not be allowed is it your idea that one of the four players who WERE legally on at the end of the match should be allowed to exchange places? I am checking on that fact as a point of interest. Of course any of the remaining players on the field during the shoot out can take the keeper position. The number of people in a shootout is not a reason to abandon the match as these arbitrary limits apply only to the match itself. A shoot out determines only the OUTCOME and thus you could in theory get down to one player on each team. In fact I am checking if you could get down to a single player with no opponent left opposing your shot to win into an empty goal? Cheers
