RE: competive Adult

john of charlotte, NC USA asks...

my son play's in an adult men league -
Team A.
S: Team B shot on goal but the ball when out of play over the goal line -
Goalkeeper A1place the ball for a goal kick - before taking the goal kick, a member of team A kicked the ball into his goal over the goal line -

Q: What is the re-star on that play?

thanks for the answer.....
John

Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol

Assuming that the team member from A kicked the ball directly into the goal, it never left the penalty area into the rest of the field. Therefore it was never in play. The restart remains a goal kick.

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

The ball was never put into play. The keeper or a teammate should proceed with the goal kick. There is also the outside possibility the player that kicked the ball into the net could be cautioned for delaying the restart of play.
