Question Number: 21592Mechanics 6/25/2009RE: rec Adult Brian Boetsma of Grandville, MI usa asks...Can a ref issue a red card after the game is over? Answer provided by Referee Jason Wright Absolutely! The referee can show cards anytime from when he enters the field (ie when the players are warming up and preparing for the match) to when he leaves afterwards.
Too many players think the final whistle means it's open slather on the referee - I've cautioned and sent off a number of players after the final whistle who have adopted that attitude.
Once the field has cleared, the referee does not show the card but simply reports the incident.

If the player is off the field and commits a cardable offense after the match the card is not shown but the caution or send-off is issued and written up in his report.
