Question Number: 21616

Kicks From The Penalty mark 7/3/2009

RE: Competitive Under 15

Bob of Anaheim Hills, CA USA asks...

When a tournament game goes directly to kicks from the mark to decide a game-

Can one team have two goal keepers alternate the goal keeper position? The rules of the competition do not state such-both players who alternated at GK were on the field at the conclusion of the game. One was the GK the other was a field player.

Thanks

Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol

All the players on the field at the end of the game take part in kicks from the penalty mark. Also included are any 'players of record' who are temporarily off the field with the permission of the referee, for example to correct equipment or treat an injury.

Unless the rules of a competition state otherwise, a goalkeeper change may be made at any stoppage of play. In KFTPM play is almost continuously stopped, so keepers could be changed between each and every kick if desired. I suppose some tournaments might disallow this in the intrests of saving time.

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

ANY player on the field at the end of all playing time may play the position of goalkeeper during KFTPM. This includes any players temporarily off the field for injury or equipment problems. Theoretically, a different player may be the keeper for every kick up to 11. If the keeper is INJURED during the kicks phase, he may be substituted for by a player not on the field of play at the end of all playing time.
