Answer provided by Referee Dennis Wickham With kids, each league is allowed to have different rules about how many children are on the team and how many play.
Most of the world supports small teams and lots of play for players under 10. The league's problem is often having enough fields and coaches to support lots of small teams. US Youth Soccer recommends that six and seven year old games be 4 vs. 4 (no goalkeepers) and a roster of 6 to 8 players. AYSO guidelines call for 5 vs. 5 (no goalkeeper) and a roster of 7 players.
