Question Number: 22521League Specific 11/15/2009RE: CLUB Other SEGIO MACIAS of BAKERSFIELD , CALIFORNIA UNITED STATES asks...WHAT IS THE RULE ON PLAYERS PLAYING SOCCER ON HIGH SCHOOL BUT ALSO WANTING TO CONTINUE PLAYING CLUB? I WAS TOLD HIGH SCHOOL STATES A PLAYER ON THE HIGH SCHOOL TEAM CAN NOT PLAY ON THEIR CLUB TEAM . Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol Please turn your caps lock key off. It's much easier to read, and all caps is interpreted as yelling. Some high school league rules prohibit playing outside the school team. There may be rules restricting play during the season. Also there are specified practice dates allowed during the year. If too many players from the school team play together on a club team outside the school season, especially if the school coach is the club coach, it could be interpreted as practicing out of season.

In my area, there is a strict rule with serious implications: no play or practice with a club team during the high school season. None. The player who does so is deemed ineligible, and punishment is that the high school team forfeits all matches in which the ineligible player participated.
