RE: Competive High School

Albert Rios of bakersfield, Ca Kern asks...

Is there such a rule that states if a player is caught playing high school and AYSO the high school will have to forfeit all there wins and that player will no longer be able to finish the year and banned for next year team (high school).

Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol

There might be. High school athletic associations and leagues have rules limiting the amount of time players can participate. There are dates set when practices can begin. Being on a non-hs team at the same time as your hs team could be a violation those rules. You'd have to check with your state athletic association.

Check with the California State High School Athletics ruling body. They may have an excellent search engine and you'll find what you need.

Because it is so large, there are several sections of the CIF, and each has its own rules. I believe Bakersfield is in the CIF Central Section.

Central's bylaw 600 appears to be similar to that adopted in my area, the San Diego section. A player is ineligible if he or she also plays in the same sport - such as AYSO or club matches during the high school designated season. (In San Diego, it is play or practice.) The ban does not appear to extend to the next year's season. Unlike my section, the penalty on the player varies on the first or second offense. You should check with the athletic director of your child's school.
