Law 15 - Throw In 11/22/2009

RE: Comp Under 11

mark of torr, ca us asks...

This question is a follow up to question 22297

is it a foul throw if the player's foot crosses over the line at the time of the throw, or, like the ball, must it completely cross over the line onto the field of play for it to be a foul throw?

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Mark
As long as any part of the foot is making contact with any part of the touchline that is legal. For the TI to be taken incorrectly all of the foot must be over the line or raised off the ground.

Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol

Law 15 says:
---------------------
At the moment of delivering the ball, the thrower:
? faces the field of play
? has part of each foot either on the touch line or on the ground outside the touch line
? holds the ball with both hands
? delivers the ball from behind and over his head
? delivers the ball from the point where it left the field of play
---------------------
Note the proper foot position in the second bullet point. As long as some part of each foot is on or behind the line, it doesn't matter where the other part of the foot is. That means the heels could be on the line and the toes on the green.

All of the foot must be off or in front of the touchline for a foul throw.
