Question Number: 22908

Kicks From The Penalty mark 3/7/2010

RE: Rec Adult

Dale Aune of Victoria, BC Canada asks...

Playoff game 90 mins then 30 mins played were about to go to peno,s when lights went out is it a total replay or straight to peno,s

Answer provided by Referee Dennis Wickham

The answer is based on league rules, not the laws of the game. the match ended in a tie after regulation time. Leagues can choose (from the options provided under the laws) to choose the team that advances or becomes the champion.

I suspect many leagues (with tight schedules and limited fields) would choose kicks from the penalty mark or a coin toss rather than try to reschedule the game.

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Dale
This is a matter for the competition authority to decide. I would suspect that as both teams would have to be brought back, one way or another, that it will be a replay. I have never seen or heard of a scenario where teams have been assembled for KFTPM to happen on their own. It is as easy to play a game as do that.
