Is this a test for us. Anyway in no particular order I could come up with 8.
1. Whistle and a spare
2. Coin and spare
3. Yellow and Red Cards and spares
4. Notebook and spare
5. Pencil and spare
6. Watch and a second one
7. Flags
8. Ball
If one counts them individually there are 17 items

View Referee Joe McHugh profileAnswer provided by Referee Michelle Maloney To Ref McHugh's list, I would add knowledge of the Laws of the Game, confidence, courage and conviction, a sense of humor, respect for the players, the game and one's fellow officials. I suppose an appropriate uniform would also be helpful.
