Law 5 - The Referee 4/5/2010

RE: cup semi final Adult

Gordon Stubbington of Andover, Hampshire U.K asks...

The referee abandoned the match after 74mins after one of the teams had a player sent off in a match where the said players team hassled the Ref through out the game and having 5 players booked.
On sending the player off the Ref was threated by the player saying he would be dead at the end of the game. The ref then abandoned the game. The opposing team were winning 3-1 at the time. would the result stand and the score count

Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol

The league will determine the results of the game. If there is no league rule to cover it, then FIFA says the game is to be replayed in its entirety.

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Gordon
This is entirely a matter for the League Authority to decide on. How it could be handled may be in the competition rules but I suspect not.

My personal preference would be for the team that was the cause of the abandonment to be suspended from the competition and the game awarded to the opponents.
