Question Number: 23106

Law 5 - The Referee 4/12/2010

RE: Under 14

Duke of Albuquerque, NM USA asks...

This weekend I had a referee who was phenomenal and very professional, however he wore a uniform I have never seen it was yellow with minimal stripes with a black badge and a logo on the right sleeve, can you tell me if what he was wearing is legal and how i might recommend him for a commendation of some sorts.

Answer provided by Referee Michelle Maloney

Without more information, it is hard to say for sure, but it sounds like a USSF referee uniform. The basic uniform is yellow with black stripes (some older models have smaller stripes, while the newer ones have slightly larger, but fewer stripes). Many of those uniforms have a USSF logo on the sleeve, and all USSF referees wear black badges except the recreational referees who wear turquoise ones and the FIFA referees who wear white or light blue ones (but only in international games).

I'd contact the referee assignor and find out who he was, and then contact your State Referee Administrator to give your thanks for his fine work.
