Question Number: 23225Law 1- The Field 5/1/2010RE: Adult brian cook of southampton, hants england asks...Why is the penalty box 'D' still marked out on the pitch? Answer provided by Referee Jason Wright The 'D' isn't actually part of the penalty area itself. Its only purpose is to measure out 10 yards from the penalty spot to ensure all players remain the correct distance from the ball at a penalty kick.
