Question Number: 23377Law 18 - Common Sense 5/26/2010RE: Rec High School Michael J Gajdowski of New Fairfield, CT usa asks...If a player takes a shot on goal and the ball hits the crossbar and then rebounds back to the same player who now shoots and scores, is the goal allowed ? Answer provided by Referee Michelle Maloney Assuming the shot was during play and not from a free kick, then yes, the player can continue to play the ball as long as it has not left the field.
If this was from a free kick, then the player cannot touch it again until it has been touched by another player, either team.

View Referee Michelle Maloney profileAnswer provided by Referee Dennis Wickham The ball remains in play when it hits the crossbar. During active play, a player may score after it rebounds.
On a penalty kick, direct free kick, indirect free kick, goal kick, kickoff or corner kick restart, the kicker may not touch the ball again until after it touches another player. If a free kick rebounds off the crossbar, the original kicker may not touch it.
