Question Number: 23898

Kicks From The Penalty mark 9/10/2010

RE: Rec Adult

Chris McGregor of Telford, UK asks...

In a penalty shoot out if the keeper 'saves' the penalty but the ball bounces in front and then spins back in to the goal should this be given? No one else has touched the ball, it is the spin on the ball that makes it go in.

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Chris
Yes it is a goal if the spin on the ball moves the ball over the goal line from the momentum of the original kick.

Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol

Yes, that would count in kicks from the penalty mark, for the reason you cite.

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

This video is everywhere. The kick is over when the referee says it is and the referee should not intervene until the ball has lost all it's kinetic energy or there is no chance of the ball scoring. EVERY keeper simply has to know the Law and avoid thumping his chest while the ball is rolling into the goal to score.
