Question Number: 23913Kicks From The Penalty mark 9/12/2010RE: Adult malvachat of oxford, oxford united kingdom asks...When taking a penalty kick in a shootout. The keeper saves the shot pushing it out back towards the kicker. The ball has a spin on it and spins back into the goal does it count as a goal. As seen here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNC-gvoZEFM&feature=player_embedded Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi This is indeed a goal. The referee decides when a penalty kick has been completed. In this case the momentum from the original kick brings the ball over the line and the save by the goalkeeper only partially stopped the ball. Indeed the GK does not even know where the ball has gone as he thinks he has saved it. He should have been alert and stopped the spin on the ball.
