Question Number: 23946

Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 9/16/2010

RE: competitive Adult

ron of new york, new york usa asks...

I know that dangerous play is an indirect free. What if dangerous play such as a high kick is committed by a defending player inside his own penalty box?

Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol

Then it's an indirect free kick inside the penalty area.

If it was inside the goal area, the kick is moved to he nearest point on the 6 yard line. And since there isn't room for the defenders to be 10 yards back, they must stand on the goal line between the posts.

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

As a referee, Ron, you should talk and write like one. There is no foul know as dangerous play nor is there one called a 'high kick'. What you refer to is, as you do correctly point out, the INDIRECT free kick foul called playing in a dangerous manner. (PIADM) It is an indirect free kick foul wherever it occurs so the restart is always an indirect free kick.

There are no boxes on a soccer field. Shoes come in boxes and soccer fields are delineated into areas, one of which is the penalty area

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Ron
The answer is an indirect free kick inside the penalty area against the defender from where the offence took place. If it happened inside the goal area the IDFK is taken from the 6 yard line directly opposite from where the offence took place.
