Question Number: 24104Law 15 - Throw In 10/8/2010RE: rec Adult jason of vancouver, bc canada asks...During a throw in, can you bank the ball off an opposing player and then play the ball to yourself? Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Jason
This Law was changed in recent years. Older referees will recall that they were advised that this was unsporting behaviour, which was a caution and an IDFK restart.
That has all changed with the Law now stating and I quote
'' If a player, while correctly taking a throw-in, intentionally throws the ball at an opponent in order to play the ball again but neither in a careless nor a reckless manner nor using excessive force, the referee must allow play to continue.''
I would like to think that all referees are up to speed in relation to Law changes. There very well may be some referees out there that do not allow this to happen still.
