Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 11/11/2010

RE: High School

ken shirkey of towaco, nj USA asks...

What direct free kick foul could be called inside the penalty box that would not be a pk?

Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol

Any of the 10, provided it's a foul by the attacking team.

But if you're talking about a defender committing the foul, then it would be a penalty kick.

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi ken
All penal fouls that are committed by the defending team inside the penalty area result in a penalty kick. When the same fouls are committed outside the penalty area the restart is a direct free kick.
The only fouls that are committed inside the penalty area that do not result in a penalty kick are indirect free kicks such as impeding without contact, playing in a dangerous manner etc and offences committed by the attacking team.
