RE: class 3 Other

japhet kasililwa of rukwa, sumbawanga tanzania asks...

This question is a follow up to question 1977

if a player takes a throw in but the ball does not enter the field of play it dropped out of the field of play, as a referee what step should i take?

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Japhet
At a throw in where in the ball does not enter the field of play or touches the ground before entering the field of play, the throw in is retaken provided that it was taken in line with the correct procedure.
If the throw in was not taken correctly the throw in is retaken by the opposing team.

Answer provided by Referee Dennis Wickham

Retake the throw.
If the referee would have judged the throw-in to be improper in form even if the ball had entered the field, award the throw-in to the opposing team.
