Question Number: 24926Law 16 - Goal Kick 5/11/2011RE: n/a Adult Zane Skillings of Kempton Park, Gauteng South Africa asks...Law 16: If a goal kick is taken by a player / goal keeper, the ball leaves the penalty area, but the wind is so strong and blows the ball back into the Goal. What is awarded? a.) Retake, b.) Goal, c.) Corner Kick. This is a level 1 question that was supplied in a questionaire. Rgds Zane Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Zane A team cannot score directly against itself from any restart. As the ball is in play when it left the penalty area the restart is a corner kick

View Referee Joe McHugh profileAnswer provided by Referee Keith Contarino Corner kick as the ball never touched another player and you cannot score on yourself directly from any restart. This would also be a corner kick if the ball hit the referee as the referee is part of the field.

View Referee Keith Contarino profileAnswer provided by Referee Dennis Wickham Corner kick. The ball was in play when it leaves the penalty area in flight (even though it came back). The ball then crossed the goal line, last touched by a defender. An own goal may not be scored directly from a goal kick.
