Question Number: 24950League Specific 5/15/2011RE: Rec Under 8 Evan of woodstock, Ontario Canada asks...do u need to call captains for under 7 year olds Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Evan The coin toss to decide direction of play and who gets possession of the ball first ie the team that loses the toss is an integral part of the game. Even at U 7 the referee has to perform that toss and it is up to the winning team to make the direction call. That is best done with 'captains' present even if they need instructions from their coaches.
