Question Number: 25602League Specific 10/14/2011RE: High School Mary of Kinderhook, NY USA asks...Corner Kicks: If a goal is scored on a corner kick via a deflection, which player receives credit for the goal? Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Mary The genral accepted view is that if a team mate touches the ball before entering the goal the goal is awarded to the last player to touch the ball. In the case of a deflection by a defender the goal would be awarded to the kicker. If the ball was going wide from a kick by an attacker and the ball was directed into the goal by a defender an 'own goal' or 'OG' would be recorded.

In some competitions, referees must report who scored the goal. In the case of own goals and deflections, the goal would probably be credited to the attacker that touched it last.
