Question Number: 25703Law 8 - Start and Restart of Play 11/5/2011RE: traveling Under 10 G.Diaz of Belleville , NJ usa asks...On the starting kicks, must the ball move? If it does does it have to cross the midline? Can the player pass it back, or just touch it? Thank you? Answer provided by Referee Dennis Wickham At a kickoff, the ball must be kicked and move forward. The movement can be slight; the ball does not have to cross the halfway line. .

At a kick off the ball must be kicked forward into the attacking half. The movement can be inches forward to a team mate who then can pass the ball back towards a team mate.

View Referee Joe McHugh profileAnswer provided by Referee Keith Contarino At the kickoff all players must be in their own half of the field, the defenders must be at least 10 yards from the ball, and the ball must be kicked and moved forward to be put into play. The movement can be minimal but it must move forward.
