Question Number: 25796Law 15 - Throw In 12/1/2011RE: Other Anil of Bangalore, Karnataka India asks...When a player throws the ball from the sideline and goes for a goal without touching anybody, is it a goal? Answer provided by Referee Dennis Wickham The ball must touch another player. A goal may not be scored directly from a throw-in.
If the thrower is an opponent, the restart is a goal kick. If the thrower mistakenly throws the ball into his own goal, the restart is a corner kick.

The throw-in is an indirect restart, in that it has to touch another player besides the thrower before it can score. Thus, if the ball is thrown into the opponents goal, the restart is a goal kick for the opponents. If it is thrown into one's own goal, the restart is a corner kick.

A goal cannot be scored directly from a throw in. Ifr the ball is thrown directly into the goal it is either a goalkick or a corner kick depending on who took the throw in.
