Question Number: 25820

League Specific 12/7/2011

RE: SELECT Under 16

SHAHBAAZ of DEHRADUN, UTTRAKHAND INDIA asks...

IS THERE ANY WAY FOR INDIANS TO JOIN THE TEAM OF BARCLAYS PREMEAR LEAG

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Shahbaaz
The Premier League has players from many Asian Confederation countries including China, Korea, Japan, Australia etc. If players are good enough clubs will always be interested in signing them.
There has not been any participation by players from India and only one player from Pakistan Zesh Rehman who played for Fulham F.C from 2003 to 2006 since the PL was set up

I note that all of the current Indian National team play for clubs in India. As the standard of soccer improves in India some of the better players will attract attention from clubs in Europe including the Premier League. I also think it is important for the Indian National team to do well and improve in the international game. World Cups and Asian Cups are a good showcase for players that want to be noticed by large professional clubs in Europe and elsewhere
