Question Number: 2602

The Technical Area 10/23/2001

RE: Comp Under 13

Jason of Lake Jackson, TX USA asks...

It is halftime during a match. The ref has blown the whistle for both teams to come back onto the field. The losing team has gone to their posistions. The winning team's coach is still discussing tactics for the second half. A second whistle has blown by the ref and the team has made no attempt to go onto the field. What actions should the ref take to encourage the coach to send his players onto the field?

Answer provided by Referee hoare 10/28/2001

This is a technical offence and would be dealt with by the league/association that the team plays within, subject to the referees report. There would be little to gain in repeatedly asking the coach to send his players out. Here in the UK we have set times for the halftime interval.

Depending upon the rules of the competition, just go over to the coach who is still doing the work he should have done before the game, during practice the week before, and tell him that if he does not get his team onto the field right now, the game will be abandoned and you will submit a full report to the competition authority. A report should be written anyway describing the incident
