Question Number: 26151Law 4 - Players Equipment 4/6/2012RE: High School kyle burns of eldersburg, Maryland USA asks...Are metal cleats or studs legal in high school play and if so, are they removable from the cleat itself to put in other material studs? Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh HI Kyle Most of the leading brands of cleats have metal studs and they are deemed not be dangerous. They can become dangerous if the cleats are worn on hard surfaces which can create burrs. All metal cleats are interchangeable. Some screw directly into the sole while others have a small discrete fastening screw that is used to secure the stud once it is positioned in the sole.

(They can become sharp and dangerous.) Almost all metal cleats come with interchangeable studs in various heights and materials.
