Question Number: 26282

Law 15 - Throw In 5/3/2012

RE: Under 14

celine taylor of troy, MI U.S.A. asks...

Im a Assistant Referee and im confused on the throw ins. If the blue team kicks the ball out, then should i point my signal to the red side of the field?

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Celine
The assistant referee should point the flag in the direction which the throwing team is attacking. So if the ref team is attacking the goals to your right point the flag to the right using your right hand. If the throw in is to the defending team the flag is pointed to the left using the left hand

Answer provided by Referee Dennis Wickham

It eventually will become second nature to point in the correct direction. Sometimes its easier to remember that you point toward the goal line of the team that last touched the ball. If the blue team last touched the ball, point the flag toward the blue team's goal line.
