Question Number: 26311Law 5 - The Referee 5/8/2012RE: Intermediate Under 12 Phil of Tarzana, CA United States asks...This question is a follow up to question 26300 Suppose, after the foul, the striker continued toward the goal, took a shot, but missed. As I understand from other questions, advantage would be realized. Would it then be too late to dismiss the GK for DOGSO? What should be done? Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Phil If the referee allows advantage and it has been realised then the only disciplinary action that can be taken is a caution. For the player to be dismissed there has to be a foul punished by a free kick. From the scenario you outline it would be my opinion that advantage has been realised and the shot then happened to go wide. If the referee is of the view that advantage was not realised and that happened within a few seconds the referee can go back to the original offence which means that the player can be dismissed as the foul denied an obvious goal scoring opportunity.

Therefore, it has not been denied - though a caution, when the ball next goes out of play, can certainly be considered.
