Question Number: 26385League Specific 5/25/2012RE: AAA Under 18 nancy of laval, quebec canada asks...what age does the referre need to be to referee an Elite AAA U17 LSEQ. and what level of referee do attend these match< Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Nancy A search of the web provides me with the following information. Elite Referees also known as being on the Provincial list are referees who officiate at the AAA-Level. These referees are assigned by the provincial assignor of the FSQ. In order to be selected as an Elite Referee, referees must be recommended by the Regional Referees Committee and be accepted by the FSQ. Referees must be an active District Referee over the age of 18 for a minimum of 2 years with the OSA in order to apply to the Regional Upgrade Program. Referees must be an active Regional Referee for a minimum of 1 year with the OSA in order to apply to the CSA Provincial Upgrade Program. Based on that the youngest one can be is 19 assuming one started at 16. That would be exceptional I would think as more likely though the referee will be older as a referee under the age of 18 is restricted in the games that they can officiate. To progress a referee has to demonstrate through assessments that he / she can officiate competently at higher levels which would only begin at 18.
