Question Number: 26396Law 15 - Throw In 5/30/2012RE: rec Under 8 Travis of Las Vegas, NV U.S. asks...During a throw-in is the player allowed to throw the ball straight down to the ground in front of them? This method has been used a lot in this league because the ball bounces up over the kids heads and towards an u7 short field goal. thank you. Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Travis The 'spike' throw-in directed straight downward has traditionally been regarded as not correctly performed and if, in the opinion of the referee such a throw-in was incorrectly performed, the restart should be awarded to the opposing team. Having said that I'm not sure that an Under 8 is performing a spike throw in rather than just a poor throw in. Only the referee can determine that.
