Question Number: 26540League Specific 7/6/2012RE: All Levels High School Kevin Freeman of Groves, TX USA asks...Will MLS and other leagues in the U.S. be using Goal-line Technology (GLT) or Additional AR's (AAR) now that it has been approved by the IFAB? Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Kevin I believe that MLS will embrace goal line technology. MLS said recently that it is pleased by the International FA Board's decision to approve two types of goal-line technology for use in FIFA competitions and professional leagues. The Commissioner Don Garber has been reported that he 'would be open to whatever it is that could be done to ensure that we have goal-line technology.' After the IFAB announcement MLS said it is eager to begin the process toward implementing the technology, but it first need to research the installation, testing, staffing and training required. As a result it will not be ready for this season but more than likely the 2013 season. As a result of the IFAB decision the key AAR role becomes redundant and their appointment may only be in grounds where the technology is not installed. I don't see a move to appoint AARs in national leagues so I suspect MLS will not do so either.

'It is unlikely that either system could be in place for our games in 2012, but we will examine the feasibility of doing so by the start of our 18th season in 2013." Those words usually mean, 'maybe.'
