Question Number: 26602Law 4 - Players Equipment 8/6/2012RE: Competive High School gabe of rockaway, new jersey usa asks...are hybrid spikes legal in high school soccer? by hybird i mean a mix of metal and hard plastic studs. Answer provided by Referee Dennis Wickham While each state is permitted to adopt its own regulations, the NFHS (high school rules) do not prohibit metal or hybrid cleats. Even so, the referee must determine that the cleats/boots are safe in order for them to be worn at play.

View Referee Dennis Wickham profileAnswer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Gabe Hybrid cleats have been rare in soccer usually used by professional players so I suspect it is not an issue for most referees. Some brands have recently launched these type of soccer shoes and they are perfectably legal. The only question i would pose as to whether they are soccer cleats or used for other sports. Cleats that are used for other sports can be a problem such as a metal toe cleat which is not legal The referee on the day will decide the safety of the cleats
