Question Number: 26790League Specific 9/18/2012RE: competive High School Brett Seamans of Diamond Point, new york usa asks...Is there a punishment for a player removing his shirt after scoring a goal in high school play.? Answer provided by Referee Dennis Wickham Yes. The player should be cautioned for unsporting conduct. Note: at one time, high school NFHS rules called for a a player to be disqualified and shown the red card for 'delayed or excessive acts to focus attention on player or prohibits timely restart.' This was changed at the national level, but any state federation may choose to retain the old rule.

View Referee Dennis Wickham profileAnswer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Brett In any sport there is no need for a player to remove his shirt to celebrate a score. In the game of soccer it became a plague with many young impressionable players copying their sporting heroes. So much so that the soccer authorities decided that it should be a caution to curb the action. That does not stop players doing it though. In the UK PL last season I witnessed a player being dismissed for a 2nd caution when he removed his shirt after scoring a goal.
