RE: rec High School

maddie of temperance, michigan usa asks...

Im a high school soccer player thinking about becoming a ref. How much to rec(u8)refs get paid?

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Maddie
Fees vary depending on the type of game and the status plus if there is travel involved. A cursory view of the web shows fees ranging from $14 up to $40 with the average being around $20.
While the higher fees might seem tempting, anyone that becomes a referee for the dollars will be sorely disappointed.

In my area about 50 miles up I-75 from you, we get $15 per game for U8's; the same for U12 assistant referees. Not much, but it beats flipping burgers. Ask the ref at your next game how you can find out the pay in your area.

Incidentally, check here to find a certification class: http://www.michiganreferee.org/
