Question Number: 27192Law 4 - Players Equipment 2/21/2013RE: High School High School Nolan Walker of Montesano, Washington United States asks...Are SG Cleats with a metal tip allowed in high school soccer games? Answer provided by Referee Dennis Wickham The NFHS high school rules do not prohibit metal cleats, but the referee always has the power to inspect cleats and permit them only if they are safe. (Metal cleat can get spurs and sharp edges.) Some leagues prohibit metal cleats by special rule. My sense is that more leagues and schools are adding this to their Rules of Competition to prevent damage to their new artificial turf fields from metal cleats. So, follow up with your coach on school/league rules.
