Question Number: 27212League Specific 3/1/2013RE: rec Under 17 janis silveira of citrus heights, California United States asks...hollyn has played soccer for 8 years now and is considering stepping off the field to referee this upcoming season. what does she need to do and when. are there scheduled training classes? Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Janis Refereeing is always delighted to welcome new memebers and in particular young people who have played the game. Hollyn needs to register for the USSF Grade 8 Referee or Grade 9 Recreational Referee training sessions with either the California North Referee Administration or the Southern California Soccer Officials Association. http://www.cnra.net/ http://www.calsouth.com/en/referees/ She then needs to complete formal training sessions, a total of 18 hours, to be a Grade 8 Referee. Attendance at all training sessions is a requirement to successfully complete the training program. On completion of the course she can then Register with the USSF by completing the Referee Registration form.

(I believe you are in Area 6). The entry level class will cover everything she needs to be able to be a referee, including registration with the USSF and how to be assigned matches.
You can also find information about scheduled clinics in Area 6 here:
