Question Number: 27322Law 5 - The Referee 4/17/2013RE: PSG vs Barcelona - first leg Adult Referee from Ottawa of Ottawa, Ontario Canada asks...In that game, the German number one (Wolgang Stark) kept Mascherano and another Barca player from entering the field of player after injuries. Didn't he brake the rules by not allowing the players to be attended to on the field? Please let mw know, Regards, Will Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi The Laws of the Game were amended in 2010 which allowed players from the same team that have collided and need immediate attention to be treated on the field of play. That meant that neither Mascherano or Alba were required to leave the field of play. As it was a corner kick to PSG it would have been a significant decision had a goal been conceded by Barcelona at that time. I would also say that it is a pretty rare occurrence and one that referees rarely encounter. Indeed some PSG players did not know the Law either as they seem to be gesturing for the Barca players' removal.
