Question Number: 27338League Specific 4/22/2013RE: Rec Under 12 Hannah of Cincinnati , Ohio asks...To play select, do you have to have an experience with soccer? Like do you have to have played rec before? Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Hannah
Not a refereeing question but one for coaches.
My experience is that it is a matter of playing ability. When demand for playing places are greater the coaches will favour those players with experience and higher playing ability.

View Referee Joe McHugh profileAnswer provided by Referee Gary Voshol There are some great natural athletes who could step onto a soccer field without much previous experience and contribute greatly to the team. But they are few and far between. Most select coaches will 'select' players that can demonstrate some specific soccer skills that they are looking for. Those skills will generally be learned by being an experienced player.
