Question Number: 27440

Kicks From The Penalty mark 5/17/2013

RE: amateur Under 17

barrie cooper of manchester, england asks...

If in a penalty shootout the keeper saves the kick ,knocking the ball on to the post and up into the air as the ball comes down the keeper catches the ball while lying on the ground it doesnt cross the line.Does the kick have to be retaken .B,COOPER

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Barrie
Why would the kick be retaken? The penalty kick has been saved by the goalkeeper and he can touch the ball as often as possible to achieve that.
If the kick was to be retaken a possible reason could be that the goalkeeper moved from his line before the kick was taken.

Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol

The goalkeeper gets as many touches as needed to try to stop the goal. There's no reason for a retake.

why do you think it might be retaken? There's no 'second touch' rule involving the keeper on penalties or KFTPM
