Question Number: 27501Law 1- The Field 6/2/2013RE: Adult Avnish of Port Louis, Mauritius asks...At a penalty kick which correctly taken. But while the ball getting to the goal hits a stone or dump on the field of play and went out of play. What is the decision of the referee? Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi
The first point is that a stone should not be on the field of play and certainly not one big enough to deflect the ball. That would be indeed rare and I doubt that a goalkeeper would allow that to happen.
Now if the ball simply hits an imperfection on the ground such as old divot, boot mark etc then that is just 'rub of the green' and the restart is a goal kick.

View Referee Joe McHugh profileAnswer provided by Referee Keith Contarino It's part of the field which should have been inspected by the referee crew before the game. If the stone was large enough to affect play it should have been removed. It wasn't so it's simply part of the field
