Question Number: 27535

League Specific 6/18/2013

RE: Competive Professional

Clint of Johannesburg, South Africa South Africa asks...

If a player is suspended due to two yellow cards and needs to rest a match. If that player plays two matches and they only find out he never missed his suspended match yet .What action needs to be taken does the team lose both that matches points if they won it with an illegal player

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Clint
That is normally covered in the competition rules of the League.
Generally if a player plays when he is suspended then the team loses the match/es on a forfeit with a score of 3-0 and a possible fine.
If the match/es was already a loss the player may be suspended for a further game/s and fined.
Also if the suspension is for one game it only applies to that game not subsequent games.

Answer provided by Referee Dennis Wickham

The disciplinary committee will decide what happens if a player/team does not comply with the rules regarding suspension. In my experience, the punishment is often very harsh. But, the laws of the game do not specify the punishment.
