Question Number: 27551

Law 5 - The Referee 6/24/2013

RE: premier Professional

ibrahim ishiaku of lokoja, kogi nigeria asks...

This question is a follow up to question 2013

If a referee ask the security to take one of the club officials out from the vicinity or the bench for improper conduct, is it proper or allowed for the match commissioner of that match to ask the security men to allow the official to remain that he can handle the situation?

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Ibrahim
No that would not be proper procedure. The match commissioner has no function in that regard and it is a matter for the referee. When a team official is asked to leave he must leave the area and general surrounds so that he has no further influence in the match.
What the commissioner could do I believe is agree pre match what procedure should be adopted in the removal of a team official and the location which would include safety and security considerations that should be used.
