Question Number: 27562Law 11 - Offside 6/26/2013RE: Intermediate Under 12 Phil of Tarzana, CA United States asks...This question is a follow up to question 27532 I have a follow up to 27532 regarding AR & CR mechanics. After the AR moves to a place on the touch line perpendicular to the original offside position, should the CR wait to place the ball until the AR can get back to the second to last defender? Or, alternatively, make it ceremonial? I realize that the defense has the IDFK but it is still possible for the attackers to gain possession of the ball quickly after the kick, & it might take awhile for the AR to get back with the second to last defender. Also, I would think it would be rare for the defense to need a quick free kick, so would probably not be disadvantaged by waiting. Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Phil Once the ball is placed then the AR should quickly move to his next position which is level with the 2nd last defender. The referee could make it on the whistle if he felt the difference was so significant that it could pose a problem for the AR. Generally the distance is never that significant so a quick sprint once the ball is placed sorts it.
