Question Number: 27579League Specific 7/6/2013RE: rec Under 11 nick of halifax, nova scotia canada asks...hi I am wondering if there would be offsides in U10 academy and if there are indirect kicks Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Nick Depends on the competition rules. Generally on small sided Under 10 games offside will not apply. Also it is more likely that all free kicks will be indirect rather than direct to encourage more passing play.

Others will have all direct free kicks, the rationale being that the kids don't understand an indirect kick. This can lead to some very interesting situations, like a direct free kick inside the penalty area. Not a good rule modification, in my mind. And many u-littles do away with offside. You just have to check your competition rules. If you can't find them, ask whoever assigned you to the game.
