Question Number: 27640Law 13 - Free Kicks 8/4/2013RE: Competive Adult Jamie wragg of Willington, Durham England asks...In his own penalty area. A player hits a indirect free kick against a team mate also inside the area and rebounds into the goal what happens? Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Jamie
As the ball has not left the penalty area it is not in play so a goal cannot be scored. The IDFK is retaken.

View Referee Joe McHugh profileAnswer provided by Referee Jason Wright For any defensive free kick inside the penalty area the ball needs to leave the PA before it is in play.
Leaving the PA directly over the goal line (whether it is in or out of the goal) means the ball has never entered play, so it's a retake.
