Law 16 - Goal Kick 10/1/2013

RE: B U 12 Adult

jose of new bury park, ca ventura asks...

wen my opponent has a goal kick they have to weit until the ball exits the box is my team allow to get the ball and score even without the ball exiting the box

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Jose
The ball may not be touched a second time until it fully leaves the penalty area with all opponents located outside the penalty area. If the ball is touched by either side before it exits the penalty area the goal kick is retaken.

Answer provided by Referee Jason Wright

Hi Jose,

The ball is not in play until it leaves the Penalty Area onto the field of play.

So both teams need to wait until the ball completely leaves the Penalty Area before they can touch the ball.

Also, if the other team is taking the goal kick then your players need to stay outside of the penalty area until the ball has left the penalty area.

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

At a goal kick, the ball is not in play until it leaves the penalty area. That means NO ONE may play the ball before it leaves the penalty area, including your players. If the ball is touched before exiting the penalty area, the goal kick is retaken. Additionally, the opposing players, in this case your players, must remain outside the penalty area until the ball leaves it. The players from the team taking the goal kick may remain inside the penalty area but may not touch the ball until it leaves it.

If your players enter the penalty area and play the ball 3-4 times after being told not to by the referee, they are likely to receive a yellow card for Unsporting Behavior
