Question Number: 27925

League Specific 10/22/2013

RE: competive Adult

Eneidy Robson Nyamuka of Cape Town, South Africa South Africa asks...

This question is a follow up to question 27903

A game started late and was stopped before time due to darkness as there was no lights to be used. What happens after that especially when one team is leading?

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Eneidy
It is up to the competition organisers to make a decision. Sometimes it is covered in the local competition rules. I have seen rules that state when say at least 80 minutes of a game has been played the result at that time will stand when the abandonment is not the fault of either team which includes poor light.

Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol

It will depend on league rules.

In youth leagues I work, rules vary to make the game complete:
-- First half completed
-- Second half started (why oh why do they think the halftime interval is so important?)
-- 2/3's of the game time complete (try figuring out that on the fly for a game with 35 minute halves)

Absent any league rule, the game must be replayed in its entirety.
